New truck

Post by grim1500 » Sat Dec 30, 2017 11:19 pm

I sold my car because I had been wanting a truck, so I went and got this. We drove to St. Louis and back last Saturday to get it. It's a 2014. I'd prefer newer, but trucks are way too expensive. Super happy with it so far (except the gas mileage. went from 30 mpg in my car to 16 in this).

I filled up from empty today, and it was $48. Ouch.

I've seen one of those next to an old Tacoma. Made me laugh and sad at the same time.

Enjoy. :)

Yeah, trucks have just gotten so big the past few years. I like it, but it's been a serious change maneuvering this big thing compared to the Cruze I had before.

What prompted the truck purchase? The new house will be closer to work (gas mileage)? You plan on hauling lumber and other supplies to work in the yard and such?

It looks to be in good condition. How many miles?

Gas must b cheaper there if that’s all a fill up cost you. And as bad as the mpg may seem, i have a smaller truck (2006 mitsubishi raider, same as dodge dakota) with a 4.7 V8 and i get about 12 city, 16-18 highway. Smaller trucks have lagged on modern fuel saving measures.

Full size trucks have become monstrously large and expensive. The “small” pickups like the tacoma, frontier, colorado/canyon are fair sized. Compact pickups are gone :/

Nice ride for sure, now you need some toys to haul/tow. Side by sides have blown up, there are so many now. tons of fun ;)

I've just been wanting a truck after having cars for so many years. They come in handy even if I actually need a truck sparingly. There have just been times that I needed something big enough to be able to haul, but only had cars. It has 72,000 miles.

Gas today was $2.19 (but I have a rewards card at this gas station around here that gives me another 10 cents off of whatever their price is, so I got it for $2.09), so yeah, I'm sure much cheaper than in California and the rest of the country. It's usually cheaper in this part of the country. The truck says I'm averaging close to 16 mpg. 15.7 last time I looked. This is the 5.3L v8. I came very close to buying a Canyon instead, but the price difference wasn't enough to give up the extra size of the Silverado. Ford announced their new Ranger. I haven't seen the interior, but the exterior is a nice looking truck, for sure, but I think it'll still have the same problem of being expensive for what you're getting. I'd rather get a full size truck that's a few years older than a newer smaller truck. I'm hoping this isn't as much of an issue in our new house, but currently it's just small enough to fit in our garage and close the door. It has sensors on the front that tell me how close I am so I don't hit the wall pulling it in.

Easily more than a dollar per gallon higher here -_- Modern full-size trucks can be cumbersome in cities, parking lots/structures, drive-thrus, etc/. They're large enough I feel like i'm driving the love child of a commercial truck and luxury car

Yeah, I'm experiencing that. I have to completely change how and where I park when I go places. Gone are the days of fitting my little car wherever I wanted. Trucks keep getting bigger, but parking lots and everything else stay the same size.

Pro tip: keep an air mattress with inflator in the truck, queen size fits well in the bed ;) Bit less private than the backseat of a car, granted, better for when you're a bit off the beaten path
